The Lost Works

Exhibited at Wave Hill, as part of the Winter Workspace Artist in Residence Open House, Bronx, NY, 2024

2024,
Installation, Silk habotai, parrafin wax, madder, osage, log wood, new York wool, copper beech branches, oak branches, dimensions variable

These works were inspired by Red Oak and Copper Beech trees. Over 250 years old, the oldest tree at Wave Hill is a Red Oak tree outside the Glyndor Gallery. The oldest tree in Providence is similarly a Red Oak  next to the RISD Woods Gerry Gallery. Throughout this winter, going from a season of death to regeneration, I have been thinking about impermanence and permanence, sequencing, decay and slow growth. Despite these trees having the time span of at least 4 human generations, I  render the Red Oaks with extractions from natural dyes and paraffin wax, embracing the reality of impermanence.
